Before I begin, I ask that you take everything with a grain of salt but keep an open mind.

Lately, the internet has become a strange place and it seems to be deteriorating at a rapid pace. Why, you may ask? Perhaps because nothing feels real anymore.

What made the internet such an addicting thing was surfing finding cool things or websites made by people. Nowadays, it just feels algorithmic or fake sites with ads that pay to be at the top of the search result. The concept of googling itself is pretty non existent. I just get some terrible AI answer and all the other sites under are just promotions that have some crazy SEO to make them appear at the top.

What is truly scary is the fact that there are great sites out thereq with plethora of information that will never see the light. Kinda a like this site not to say its great but there is a comfort in knowing that most people will never access it hence not biasing my opinion.

But its not just the search engine even social media is the same. I so often come across a instragram accounts that are fake or the comment section is just bots. I’m starting to fear that social media seems to be engineering people and their personality at this point. Soon it will become hard to distinguish people from bots. I fear it’s engineering me now. I hate that I have to squint at photos at times to make sure they’re not AI, or see a wallpaper that’s clearly not made by a human.

The Dead Internet Theory argues that most of the content you see on the internet is mostly manipulated by bots. Back in the day it was just an conspiracy but people still agreed with the overarching idea. Now in 2025 the theory is becoming observable. Slowly I am starting to agree with it.

Soon we will be left with a hollowed internet that is not longer a mirror of our collective image.
